Washington D.C. medical spa treatment room

In Washington, D.C., a syringe is not a beauty tool. It is a medical act. That is how the District of Columbia Board of Medicine has described injectables for more than a decade.

If your clinic in Georgetown, Dupont Circle, or downtown offers neuromodulators or tissue fillers, you are in a higher-risk bucket than a facial studio. DC medical spa injectable liability insurance is the professional-liability layer that matches that fact. It is not a slip-and-fall policy, and it is not a promise that every bad outcome will be paid.

Who can inject in the District

The Board's Policy No. 15-02 on the Practice of Aesthetic Medicine (November 13, 2014) is the document owners should actually read. Injectables sit on the Level III list: neuromodulators, tissue fillers, and sclerotherapy. Those procedures are the practice of medicine under D.C. Official Code § 3-1201.02(7). A weekend course does not replace a District license. Estheticians do not inject.

For Level III work, the policy says a medical director should have the training to perform and supervise those procedures, be physically present at least half of weekly operating hours, and stay available for consultation. A physician who "covers" three spas by phone is not the model the Board described. Applications and claims both ask who was on site.

The DMV makes follow-up messy

D.C. clinics treat people who do not live in the District. A patient may come from Bethesda or Arlington after work, or fly home the next day. Consent has to be real, after-hours contact has to work, and a Maryland license does not automatically allow someone to inject in the District. Hospital or out-of-state clinic coverage often does not follow an injector into your D.C. entity. Get certificates and date them.

Start with the work: which products, who injects, and which days the medical director is actually in the clinic. D.H. Lloyd & Associates will walk through that file. It is not a price quote and it is not a binder.
